Permanent, Unjammable, Urban-Canyon-Penetrating Microlocation Digital Street System – No Taxpayer Cost
The Ultra-Wideband Roadway Geometry Network™ (URGN™) delivers an unjammable, GPS-independent “digital rail” that gives every vehicle lane-level positioning in urban canyons, dense fog, long tunnels, and deliberate jamming — using only the UWB chips already built into every new iPhone, Android flagship,
In cities, GPS routinely errs by half a block or more due to the urban canyon effect, where tall buildings block and reflect signals, causing multipath. A proven 10-block demonstration on 6th Avenue in Manhattan — part of the NYCDOT Connected Vehicle Pilot — achieved lane-level accuracy by installing UWB units in street lights, where GPS was unavailable or highly degraded. Our MTA’s Genius Challenge Award-winning UWB installations in subway tunnels further validate the reliability of positioning in challenging environments.
URGN™ will prevent thousands of urban crashes caused by lane departures in poor visibility or inaccurate navigation, deliver true lane-level congestion and incident data (knowing exactly which lane is blocked in real time), and enable instant adaptive guidance around work zones, construction, or events.
Implementation is simple and flexible: private industry adds small UWB tags to raised pavement markers, bollards, reference posts, or street lights using standard NEMA connections that city crews already maintain — no new infrastructure, no extra closures, just a change order to existing contracts. (Actual cost is less than 1/10th of normal maintenance with 5x redundancy.)
In exchange for fully funding deployment and 30 years of operations & maintenance at zero cost to taxpayers, the private partner receives the right to provide licensed data access to robotaxi fleets, ADAS makers, insurers, delivery companies, ride-hail services, microtransit providers, and navigation providers.
URGN™ prevents urban lane-departure crashes caused by bad positioning, enables citywide Level 4/5 autonomy, and provides first responders and critical services with resilient PNT when GPS is degraded or denied.
A citywide pilot in a major metropolitan area in 2027 — building on NYC’s proven UWB successes — will prove it works exactly as promised at This is the simplest, highest-impact urban mobility and safety upgrade we can make with technology that already exists and has been proven in New York City. Let’s issue the first change orders in 2026 and give our city streets that save lives, save time, and never lose their way again.
